Email Service Closure

Our Grapevine, nCable and Octa4 email services have reached End of Life and will be closed from 6 June 2023.

This closure affects all Grapevine email services (e.g. username@grapevine.com.au or username@homemail.com.au), nCable services (e.g. username@ncable.net.au or username@nCable.com.au) and Octa4 services (e.g. username@octa4.net.au).

  • Internet access will not be affected by this change.
  • After the closure, these email addresses will no longer be able to send or receive emails, email forwarding to or from another email address will stop, and you won’t be able to access any existing emails stored on the mail server.  Any messages sent to your email will bounce back to the sender as undeliverable.
  • Customers must download a copy of any important emails they wish to keep before the Grapevine email service is closed.

We’ve notified affected customers via SMS and email.

If you are using your Grapevine, nCable or Octa4 email for your iiNet invoices, or any other subscriptions, you will need to update your details.

How to back up important emails

Webmail services linked to these emails don’t contain a bulk export functionality. There are several options available to you to backup your email.

One of them is to add your email address to a desktop email client such as Outlook, Mac Mail or Thunderbird. This will allow you to save your email to your local device.

Backing up emails using various desktop clients

Alternatively, if you are already using a desktop email client (EG Outlook or Mac Mail), you can export a copy of your mailbox by following our helpful guides below.

Migrating your email into Gmail Webmail

This option downloads all email into the Gmail inbox and removes the email content from the existing server. Gmail monitors the email address you are importing from for 30 days to pull in any new email.  All emails imported will arrive in the Gmail inbox as unread and if you previously had folders set up, these are not imported.

  1. Log in to your Gmail account preferably on your desktop computer.
  2. In the top right, click Settings (Cog icon), then See all settings.
    Gmail - All Settings
  3. In the top banner, click Accounts & Import.
  4. Click Import mail and contacts.
    Gmail - Import
  5. Enter your email address (EG jane.citizen@grapevine.com.au), then click Continue.
    Gmail - Start Import
  6. Enter the password for your email address.
  7. In POP username enter your full email address
  8. In POP Server, if not automatically populated, enter one of the following:
    - Grapevine: mail.grapevine.com.au.
    - nCable: mail.ncable.net.au
    - Octa4: mail.iinet.net.au
  9. Click Continue.
    Gmail - Start Import
  10. Click Start Import.
    Gmail - Start Import
  11. You will get a notification that the messages are being imported. Click OK.

Migrating your email into iCloud Mail

This option requires an upgrade to iCloud+.

  1. Go to iCloud.com
  2. Select Account Settings, then click Custom Email Domain.
  3. In the Custom Email Domain section, select Manage.
  4. Select the email address that you want to import mail from, scroll down, and select the Import Mail button (or select the button to import email messages from an additional address).
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to sign in to your previous email account and import messages.
